Most of us fear death and people always scare us about death and the majorities don’t want to hear about it!! But I am not going to scare you today; Iwill do totally the opposite!!!
You will say : Oh you are going to talk about the good pious people!!!, those who are not scared of death because they have done so much good and they are sure they will go to heaven. I will answer: Well, none of us can guarantee that he or she will go to heaven even the most pious of us, only Allah knows.
Today I will talk about meeting the most beloved to your heart. All the past years you have loved a lord that you have never seen and never heard his voice. The prophet PBUH said: Whoever loves meeting Allah, Allah will love meeting him/her.
Of course we will be happy when death arrives because we lived a very long life hearing about Allah SWT and his love and his mercy and generosity and now time has come for us to see his mercy falling upon us. Allah SWT asked us to think well of him and expect good as in the hadeeth Al-Qudsi Allah SWT says: “I am as My slave thinks I am, so let him think whatever he wants.” Subhana Allah how generous and unlimited is that statement?
O, how beautiful is that moment when you are going to meet the lord that you loved and worshiped all your life, it could be a difficult moment physically but your spirit will be living its highest level of happiness. Allah SWT says in surat Al Fajr:
يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ (27) ارْجِعِي إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَرْضِيَّةً (28)فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَادِي (29) وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي (30)
O you self (that is) composed, Return to your Lord satisfied with Supreme Satisfaction! So enter among My bondmen! And enter My Paradise.” One of the scholars said that the person will be walking on heaven and he will still be remembering the sweetness of the moment when he was first told by the angel of death that he will go to heaven. Some will say but I am scared of death because of the sins I committed and because of my deeds, what can I do? I will tell you what you can do!!
Take a decision to repent sincerely from all those sins and bad deeds and I will tell you the good news:
All those sins will turn into good deeds which you will be proud of on the Day of Judgment and the moment of your death will be the sweetest moment of your life and you will not be scared of death or anything else Alhamdulilah. Don’t give up hope in Allah, rest assured. Allah SWT says:
Say, “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah . Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.”
Don’t you feel so good when you enter your home and see your loved ones? or when you go to visit your best friends? Did you think that Allah SWT will grant you that happiness in dunia when you see your loved ones and take it away from you when you meet him SWT?
…… No that is not our thought of our lord, instead we think he will make the happiest day of our life is the day we meet him as a mercy from him SWT not because we deserve it but because he is the most merciful and that is how well we think of him.
And when it comes to sins that are between us and Allah SWT, a sincere repentance will erase them all as if they never occurred. Our beloved prophet Mohammad PBUH said: (The one who repents from a sin becomes as if he never sinned before) so what do you want more than that?
Have faith of that moment and look forward to it. But if you insist on committing sins and doing bad then don’t be surprised when you don’t get all these beautiful moments and promises!! Allah SWT is just and he doesn’t want too much from us. He gets satisfied with the little of good Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala, even though he deserves from us to work all our lives to please him, instead he is satisfied with the little Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala because he is the most generous and most merciful.
This decision we are going to take in our heart (repentance) will change our graves from a dusty hole to a beautiful garden in paradise.
You need to know that a human will be in one of two conditions when he/she dies: He managed to wipe all his sins before he dies, like if he goes to Hajj or Omra and dies after that or if he did so many good deeds that erased all his bad deeds or if he repents every night so he has no more sins left. The angels come down to this person on the moment of his death to tell him the good news and show him his place in heaven. So while his family is crying for losing him, he is so excited to go, he wants to get to the paradise he has always dreamt about. I have never seen someone who does not think of Husnul Khatima (Good sings before death), even when we see someone we don’t know, who dies in front of us in a bad state, we feel so sad for them, so how about ourselves? We all wish to attain Husnul Khatima. But what is Husunl Khatima? There are sings for Husnul Khatima, sometimes you may see a sign or two and sometimes you may see them all but if you don’t see them, it does not mean that person has a Su’ul khatimah or bad ending….No! Only Allah Knows but these sings are a good indication 1. If he/she dies and his forehead is sweating. The prophet PBUH said: The death of the believer is with a sweat on his forehead. 2. If he/she dies on the night of Friday (which is Thursday night) or the day of Friday. The prophet PBUH said: Allah SWT will protect the Muslim who dies on the night or the day of Friday from the Fitnah of the grave. 3. And one of the best signs: If he/she says the Shahadah before he dies. The prophet PBUH said: whoever his last words in Dunia were La Ilaha Ella Allah will enter paradise. 4. If the person is a Shaheed, and shaheed here is not just in Jihad for the sake of Allah but also the prophet PBUH said: whoever dies out of burning or drowning or from an illness in his/her stomach or while defending himself or his money or his family then he/she is Shaheed. 5. If he/she dies while in the state of worship. So when the angel of death comes to him, he is either praying, or fasting or reading Quran, taking Wudu or going to an Islamic lecture or to the masjid. The prophet PBUH said: (If Allah SWT wants khair (good) for his Abd (slave) he will purify him before he dies. The companions asked: what is the purification of the Abd? The prophet PBUH said: a good deed Allah makes him does and the angel of death takes his soul while doing it). Someone might say I wish I could die in Husnul Khatimah but I have no control of it. What can I do to get Husnul Khatimah? The answer: Husnul Khatimah can be achieved by doing two things: 1. To think well of Allah SWT (Husnul Thanna biLLAH), think the best of him, think he will forgive you and he will have mercy on you and he will grant you the Jannah and he will give you husnul khatimah. The prophet PBUH said: (None of you should die unless he/she is thinking well of Allah SWT) 2. You do well in your worship: This means your deeds. It is as simple as this: how you live is how you are going to die. If all your life you are working to collect money then you will die while you are collecting money and if all your life is sins and bad deeds then you will die while you are committing a sin. And if all your life you are trying to do good, visit your family and help the poor which is all considered worship and all your thoughts and intentions are to please Allah SWT then you will die in that state. And know if the person dies in Su’ul khatima (bad ending) and he did not manage to clear his sins then he deserves the punishment……….. But wait!!!….he still has three more chances in (Al barzakh) (life after death) which I will tell you about them next time insha Allah.
Inspired by a lecture from my favorite Sheikh,
Sheikh Mushari Al Kharraz in his program Ajmal Nathra (FYI: I translated the lecture and hadeeths into simple English to help everyone get the message. You might find the hadeeths translated somewhere else in different wording but I assure you the meaning will be the same) I hope you enjoyed the lecture as I did. I could not not share it with you 🙂
